Springfield home-service website study (2026)

In October 2026 we checked 707 independent home-service businesses in the Springfield, Missouri area for a website that works. This page explains exactly what we measured, where the data came from, and what the numbers can and can’t tell you.

Key findings

In October 2026, Get It Ready checked 707 independent home-service businesses in the Springfield, Missouri area. 157 (22%) had no website of their own in their map listing and 107 (15%) linked to a site that did not load. Of the 443 sites that loaded, 43% had no quote request on the homepage and 38% had no tap-to-call link.

How we did it

Which businesses

We started from the public business listings in Overture Maps Places (release 2026-09-23.1), an open dataset that combines listings from several large map providers. We took every listing in the Springfield metro area — Greene County, plus Nixa, Ozark and nearby towns — in these categories: remodeling and general contractors, roofing, gutters and siding, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and exterior work such as concrete, fencing, landscaping, tree service, pools and garage doors.

We kept only independent businesses: we removed national brands, known franchises, branch-office pages, any website shared by four or more addresses, and listings Overture rates as low-confidence. The filter is a rule of thumb, so a few chains may have slipped through. That left 724 businesses. The websites of 17 of them block automated visits, so we left them out of every figure, for a final count of 707.

What we checked

For each business we looked at the website on its listing and visited the homepage once. We recorded whether it loaded; whether it was set up to fit a phone screen (a mobile viewport tag); whether it used a secure HTTPS connection; whether the homepage had a quote or estimate request (a form, or a “free estimate” or “request a quote” call to action); and whether its phone number was a tap-to-call link.

Nobody was contacted, and we didn’t log in to, submit or change anything on any website.

What the numbers can’t tell you

  • “No website” means the map listing we used had no site of its own for the business. Some of these businesses may have a website listed somewhere else.
  • A site that didn’t load may belong to a business that moved to a new domain, or that has closed.
  • We checked the 50 remodeling businesses that scored worst by hand, with web searches. For 12 of them (24%) the automated result was wrong — most often because the business had a newer website we hadn’t found. Read these figures as an upper bound.
  • We visited each homepage once, without running its scripts. Sites built entirely with JavaScript can hide a form from a check like this, so the “no quote form” figure may run a little high.
  • We measured how sites are built, not how many calls they bring in.
  • 17 businesses whose sites block automated visits were left out of every figure.

Towns with fewer than five businesses are left out of the file, so the town rows add up to 697 of the 707. How many businesses did the Springfield website study check?

We checked 707 independent home-service businesses in the Springfield, Missouri area in October 2026. They are roofers, HVAC companies, plumbers, electricians, remodelers and exterior trades such as concrete, fencing and landscaping. We started from 724 independent listings and left out 17 whose websites block automated visits, so none of those 17 count in any figure.

What did the study find?

Of the 707 businesses, 157 (22%) had no website of their own in their map listing and 107 (15%) linked to a site that did not load. Of the 443 sites that loaded, 190 (43%) had no estimate request on the homepage, 169 (38%) had no tap-to-call link, 41 (9%) were not set up for phones and 20 (5%) were not on https. Read these as upper bounds.

Why does the study say the numbers are upper bounds?

Because the check is automated and has known limits. “No website” means the map listing we used had no site of its own, and some of those businesses may have one listed elsewhere. When we hand-checked the 50 worst-scoring remodelers with web searches, the automated result was wrong for 12 of them (24%), most often because the business had a newer website we had not found.

Which towns are included in the study?

The study covers businesses whose listing is in Greene County, plus Nixa, Ozark and the nearby towns around Springfield. By listing address, 462 are in Springfield, 92 in Nixa, 45 in Ozark and 24 in Republic, with smaller counts in towns such as Rogersville, Strafford, Battlefield and Willard. The service area page shows the same numbers town by town.

Can I quote or reuse the study’s numbers?

Yes. You are welcome to quote the figures with a link back to this page. The aggregate tables, by trade and by town with no business names, are released under CC BY 4.0 and available as a CSV file.
